Cal Ripken Jr.

About Cal Ripken Jr.

Cal Ripken, Jr. is, without a doubt, one of the greatest baseball players ever. From 1981 to 2001, Ripken earned a myriad of accolades, including 2 Gold Glove Awards, 8 Silver Slugger Awards, 19 All-Star selections, an American League (AL) Rookie of the Year title, 2 AL MVP titles, and 2 All-Star Game MVP titles. In 1983, he helped the Baltimore Orioles, the only team for which he ever played, win their first ever World Series title. During his amazing career, Ripken earned the nickname “The Iron Man,” because he hardly ever missed a game. In fact, he holds the MLB all-time record for most consecutive games played with 2,632; he surpassed baseball legend Lou Gehrig’s 2,130-game record in 1995. One of the best shortstops and third basemen in the history of the sport, Cal Ripken, Jr. retired in 2001. Since then, this baseball legend has been named both to the National Baseball Hall of Fame and to the Major League Baseball All-Century Team.
