Alexander Ovechkin
About Alexander Ovechkin
Alexander Ovechkin is a Russian professional hockey player. The first overall pick of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, left winger Ovechkin is now the team captain of the Washington Capitals. He is the son of a former professional soccer player and an Olympic gold medalist basketball player. Ovechkin began his career at age 16 in the Russian Superleague, where he won the award for Best Left Winger. He has also achieved great success in the NHL since becoming a member of the Capitals. His best year was the 2007-08 season, when he became the only player ever to win the Rocket Richard Trophy, the Art Ross Trophy, the Lester B. Pearson Award, and the Hart Memorial Trophy during the same season. He led Team Russia to a gold medal at the World Championships the very same year. In 2009, he once again won the Hart Memorial Trophy, the Lester B. Pearson Award, and the Rocket Richard Trophy while leading the Capitals to their second consecutive division title. The future is looking good for this 24-year old, two-time MVP.
